Maasai clans endorse Uhuru a day after elders endorse Raila
- Raila Odinga was blessed and endorsed by the Maasai community for president in the upcoming poll
- The following day on Friday, August 4, 5 Maasai clans endorsed President Uhuru for re-election
- Uhuru and Raila are the two main presidential candidates to watch among 7 candidates
President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Friday, August 3, endorsed by the five main clans in the Maasai community. The Jubilee campaign team was in Suswa when the endorsement was made with just three days to the poll on Tuesday, August 8. Uhuru was in Narok county to also commission a transmission site for the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited at Suswa.
The five main clans are il-makesen, il-aiser, il-molelian, il-taarrosero, and il-ikumai and each had a representative at the endorsement. Uhuru’s endorsement came a day after the same Maasai community also endorsed National Super Alliance’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga for president.
At the historical Suswa ground too, the community said they chose Raila because he’d demonstrated that he had the community’s interests at heart. They also said he would not fail like previous governments to address land injustices in Kajiado and Narok counties. However, they made two major requests to the opposition presidential candidate. One of the requests was that the lands cabinet minister in his government, should NASA beat Jubilee Party, come from their community.
Secondly, they asked him to implement the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation report to show that he is willing to sort out the Massasi community. Uhuru and Raila are the two main presidential candidates to watch ahead of the polls. They have both been engaged in high gear campaigns as they begin wrapping up to meet the deadline for campaigning, 48 hours to the election.
