IEBC officials nabbed trying to destroy 16 ballot boxes.

- 2 IEBC officials and a civilian were arrested on Saturday, August 19 after being nabbed with broken ballot boxes
- The three were caught up with by police at Embakasi girls primary school together with ballot boxes which were initially supposed to be sealed
- Outgoing Embakasi East MP Ilshadali Sumra recorded a statement on the same 3 people, including two IEBC officials have been arrested while attempting to destroy 16 ballot boxes in Embakasi, Nairobi county. Police nabbed the three suspects and retrieved the ballot boxes which were discovered at Embakasi Girls High school.

Ilshadali Sumra, the outgoing Embakasi East MP confirmed the incident, adding that the officials tricked their way into gaining access to the ballot boxes. The officials reportedly gained access into the hall where the ballot boxes lay under the pretense that they were going to “retrieve something they had forgotten”.
Sumra now says the broken ballot boxes will go some way in strengthening the National Super Alliance’s credentials as far as the petition against the Presidential Election results is concerned.
“According to the rules governing IEBC, it is illegal that the ballot boxes were open and it is only the court that has the mandate to open them,” The outgoing MP said. TUKO.co.ke has since learnt that photos and videos of the tampered ballot boxes have been taken as evidence of the vandalism. Dr Eroo Meli, an elections manager in Nairobi county, however, moved to assure that the officials were simply at the premises to retrieve the Forms 34 A.
