Tension in Kisumu over missing names in IEBC list.

- Over 300 voters in Raila Odinga's backyard allege they are being intentionally locked out of the election
 - they realized that their names had not been listed at polling stations despite being verified voters on IEBC's voter register
-IEBC officials turned them away, saying there was little they could do.

With just hours to the polls on August 8, the over 300 residents complained of tier names missing in the IEBC registers pinned up at polling stations. The voters camped outside the offices that were heavily guarded by Administration Police and the Quick Response Team.
According to some of the voters, their names were verified with the poll body but their names were missing on lists where they registered to vote.
“I have counter checked numerous times, even sent my details to IEBC’s 70000 number to check my registration status but was told to visit the nearest IEBC offices,” said Nicholas Otieno as quoted in the Daily Nation. The voters had claimed that they were being intentionally being locked out from voting.
However, IEBC Returning Officer for Kisumu County, John Cox Lorionokou, said the problem could have occurred as a result of voters sharing identification card details. Apparently, if two or more people share these details, their names will automatically be excluded from the register. “This problem is not the fault of IEBC but of the registration bureaus. The truth is that we have official registers we will use and if anyone finds their name is not on the list, there is little we can do. Those affected should visit their various constituency offices to clarify and correct the matter,” said Lorionokou.
Kenyans are set to head to the most expensive, most contested poll in Kenya’s history on Tuesday, August 8.
