The only NASA governor who delivered for Raila on August 8.
- Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi outdid himself in ensuring NASA and Raila Odinga collected more votes in the Coast
- Kingi is the only governor in the coast who ensured every seat in his county went to Raila - All the MCA seats in Kilifi, as well as MP positions, went to ODM.
As the aftermath of the just ended General Election continues to cause ripples, the various political parties have recorded losses and wins. The NASA coalition remains the biggest casualty in the elections not just for losing the presidency but also getting fewer MPs and Senators in the next Parliament. Jubilee won big and even launched an onslaught on several NASA strongholds winning several seats.
All the five NASA principals failed to deliver in their strongholds as expected despite campaigning hard to beat Jubilee. But one ODM governor remains the unsung hero in the bruising race in the Coast region. Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi delivered well for NASA and its leader Raila Odinga in a way that no any other governor in the Coast did.
He worked hard to ensure that NASA through its affiliate party ODM carried the day by scooping all the 27 MCA seats. The soft spoken but the tactical governor also saw to it that all the seven MP seats went to the Orange party. Kingi also made sure Raila scooped 273,852 votes compared to Uhuru Kenyatta’s 49,293 votes. Kingi himself got 213,708 votes while his Jubilee competitor Gideon Mungaro managed 55,213 votes.
he governor’s exploits were much more compared to fiery Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who failed to deliver accordingly despite being ODM Deputy party leader. In Mombasa, ODM managed to get four MPs seats while Wiper had one and another seat went to an independent aspirant. Raila got 238,943 votes in Mombasa while Uhuru had 99,508 meaning Kingi worked harder than Joho.
